Check Mackinac County VINELink

VINELink Mackinac County is a free way to check whether one named person is in custody after an arrest. But it is a search tool, not a booking list. Michigan residents can use it online or by phone at any hour. When the jail or state system behind it takes part, you can also opt in for notices of a release or transfer. Mackinac County's participation is not advertised. A blank result therefore calls for a phone call to the sheriff and jail, not a guess about release. After a transfer, the picture splits further. County custody, state prison, federal custody, and immigration detention each run on separate systems.

Mackinac County VINELink Coverage

Michigan runs its own version of VINE. The official MI-VINE page describes a free, confidential service open online and by phone around the clock. Participating county and state systems supply the custody and case data. Statewide reach does not mean every jail sends records. No Mackinac County page lists an active jail feed. So the result itself matters. A returned Mackinac record should be read for its custody wording, event date, and supplying system. A miss can mean a misspelled name, a booking too new to post, a system that does not take part, a release, or custody somewhere else. Silence never rules out an arrest. For live local custody, call the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Edward M. Wilk, or the jail, at 906-643-1911. The national VINELink interface shows the starting point for a Michigan search. That office remains the official check.

It never creates or replaces a Mackinac County booking record.

Check a Mackinac County Arrest

Start with exact identity details. Common names pull up several records, so a date of birth or accepted identifier keeps one person's arrest from being confused with another's. Search Michigan first. Then inspect the agency and custody wording before relying on a result, since the arresting agency may differ from the jail that accepted the person.

  1. Open VINELink and select Michigan as the state.
  2. Enter the person's last and first name, or an identifier the interface accepts.
  3. Compare identity details when more than one person appears.
  4. Open the matching record and note the supplying system, custody wording, and event date.
  5. If registration is offered, choose an alert method. If no record appears, call the sheriff or jail.

A Mackinac County Jail booking is local pretrial custody. It is not a court docket. Nor is it a Michigan Department of Corrections profile. Timing also shapes what appears. Someone just booked may show up later. A person released soon after arraignment may no longer be listed. For county-wide booking and photo routes, see the Mackinac County recent arrests hub.

Mackinac VINELink Result Fields

Fields depend on the supplying agency. Michigan materials back the service for custody status and event notices, but Mackinac County publishes no field specification. Read each label literally and note the time shown. A blank field never proves an event did not happen.

Result itemHow to read it
Name or identifierUse it to distinguish similar matches; confirm identity independently.
Supplying systemShows which participating county or state source sent the record.
Custody statusDescribes the status last supplied, not a court disposition.
FacilityMay identify the holding or corrections location when reported.
Event dateHelps judge freshness but is not always the arrest or booking time.
Registration optionShows whether that record supports notices and which methods are offered.

Never infer a final charge from VINELink. Mackinac County's 92nd District Court handles arraignment, bail, and misdemeanor matters. It also handles felony preliminary steps. Its later files may show dismissal, plea, conviction, acquittal, or another outcome. That court record answers a different question. Booking files and court files are not the same thing.

Note: Save the supplying agency and event date, since those details sharpen any follow-up call or records request.

Register Mackinac Custody Alerts

Registration attaches to one returned record. Michigan's materials list phone, email, and text options, with notices that may cover release, transfer, escape, and some court events when the source reports them. Phone registration uses a four-digit PIN. Email and text do not, under the state brochure.

  1. Open the matching person and system record.
  2. Select registration only if the record offers it.
  3. Choose phone, email, or text and enter the requested contact details.
  4. Create and retain the four-digit PIN for telephone notices.
  5. Confirm the destination and keep the registration details for later changes.

The VINELink registration screen appears after a matching record.

Choices vary by supplying system. Confirm what each option means first. Phone registration also works through MI-VINE at 800-770-7657, with TTY 866-847-1298 listed in the state brochure. Alerts are prompts, not guarantees of delivery or personal safety, so keep direct agency contacts and other safety plans in place.

Michigan VINE Has Two Layers

County jail notices and MDOC victim services share a name but cover different custody stages. A Mackinac County arrest starts at the county jail. A state prison sentence does not. Parole and probation belong to MDOC too. Its victim-services page adds MDOC notification details, while the main Michigan VINE route covers participating county and court events. The official Michigan MI-VINE information screen explains the statewide service and its contact routes.

The state page sets up the service. It cannot show whether a Mackinac County record comes back, so run the search and see for yourself.

Booking
The jail intake process after a person is accepted into custody.
Transfer
A move from one holding agency or facility to another.
Release
An end to that reported custody event, not a finding that the case ended.
Disposition
The later court outcome, such as dismissal, plea, conviction, or acquittal.

Mackinac VINELink Limits

MI-VINE is not a live Mackinac County booking feed. The county publishes no verified online roster. No same-day arrest list exists either. How fast a local arrest reaches VINE is unknown, and several things can hide or delay an event. Intake screening, a quick release, a transfer to another facility, or a jail that simply does not participate can all change what shows up. Someone checking on a fresh arrest in Mackinac County should call 906-643-1911. Have the person's full name and identifying details ready. A call still beats an app when the answer matters right now.

Federal custody sits outside VINE altogether. A person serving a federal sentence belongs in the Bureau of Prisons locator. Federal pretrial detention may run through the U.S. Marshals Service at a contracted jail. Immigration holds appear in the ICE locator instead. None of those systems will confirm a Mackinac County booking. An MDOC OTIS match reflects state corrections or supervision rather than a new county arrest. Matching the system to the custody type saves a lot of dead ends.

Verify first: treat any alert or status as a lead, and confirm urgent custody, release, or transfer questions with the agency listed in the record.

When a document or booking photograph is needed, file a Mackinac County FOIA request. Send it through the County Clerk FOIA Coordinator. A record request and an alert do different jobs. One asks for a maintained copy that may face review or exemptions. The other reports status events supplied by participating systems.

Sheriff App Is Not VINE

The official Mackinac County Sheriff MI app is a different channel from VINE. Its store listings mention crime reports, tips, interactive features, and agency news. A jail roster is not among them. Neither is a booking-photo stream or a custody-alert subscription. That gap is easy to miss when both tools sit on the same phone. One serves outreach. The other tracks custody.

Use the sheriff app for agency updates and appropriate tips. Test MI-VINE for a named person's participating custody record and alerts. Call the jail for current local custody. Each channel answers a different question, so pick the one that fits the question at hand.

A sheriff announcement may describe an investigation or ask the public for help, yet it may never mention an intake date, holding location, transfer, or release. MI-VINE can report a custody event without any officer narrative attached. The jail speaks to present local custody. Formal county copy requests go through the County Clerk FOIA Coordinator. If the person later enters state prison, parole, or probation, MDOC OTIS becomes the relevant locator. Keeping those boundaries straight keeps an old public-safety post from being mistaken for a live jail status.

Note: A deleted or corrected agency post does not erase the booking record, which stays with the custodian's records process.
